We still have another 4 months as a two adult with a dog and two cats household before our world gets turned upside down. But our daughter is already a spoiled and incredibly loved child. I can’t tell you how many people are excited for her arrival. Not just our parents, who are going to be first time grandparents, but our siblings and friends too. Gifts are already starting to trickle in.
I’m pretty excited about this gift from my mom and I think it’s going to be part of my baby shower gift giving in the future.
201 Organic Baby Purees: The Freshest, Most Wholesome Food Your Baby Can Eat! by Tamika Gardner, is a book of homemade purees for that stage when they start to eat real food. In addition it talks about how to make them and store them.I like the handy list of ingredients to keep handy to make delicious purees for your little one. There’s recipes with meat in them, but there are plenty of recipes for parents who plan on keeping their kiddo vegetarian or vegan.
There aren’t a lot of full colored pages in the book, but one beautifully done page highlights fruits and vegetables that should be purchased from organic sources. These plant sources really hold on to pesticides.
Otherwise, the pages are well organized with hints and tips. I have yet to try any (kiddo wont be eating puree for another 10 months at least), but I can imagine the potential. I want to make sure she has a well developed palate for later in life.
Sure, there aren’t a lot of pictures. But most puree isn’t exactly appetizing to adult eyes anyways.
Like I said, I think this is a book that could break the humdrum of normal shower gifts. Maybe alongside a few registered for food related items (such as bottles, spoons etc).
I’m looking forward to showing my daughter the joys of fruits and vegetables. I love following what vegan mother hubbard feeds her twin toddlers on twitter. I want to be a toddler in that house sometimes.
