A few weekends ago, we were lucky enough to be at my younger cousin’s wedding to his beautiful bride. It was a beautiful day and they looked so happy together. They also seemed to have a lot of fun putting on their dream day too.
(I think someone made a joke along the lines of are you sure you want to sign that)
I was also happy back when I got the invitation with a note on the bottom that said “please let us know if you would prefer a vegetarian meal”. I was thrilled. I immediately requested the vegetarian option. Having an option to avoid meat is always great.
The meal started with some kind of mixture of two soups. It was pretty good although I couldn’t tell you what it was. It almost seemed like a mixture of squash and asparagus soup.
It was followed by a simple salad and bread. Instead of taking a picture of the salad, I took a picture of my brother and the groom. I think they look more like siblings that they do to their actual siblings.
For the main course, instead of having chicken, I was brought my special vegetarian meal. I was happy to find out it was actually vegan (and probably easy to whip up).
The rice, carrots and broccoli were overlap from the omnivore meal. The only veggie that didn’t carry over from the omnivore meal was potatoes. Maybe they cooked the potatoes with butter or cheese? The main part of the plate was canned artichoke and heart of palm with a Italian dressing. I’m not sure I had much for protein that night, but it was a good hearty filling meal. And I like the idea of a simple meal with artichoke and heart of palm when I’m not in the mood to cook.
My brother forgot to order the vegetarian option for his girlfriend, a long time pescatarian. So he basically got two huge chicken breasts.
For dessert we had this lovely mouse. I’m not huge on sweets lately, and my meal was filling, so I took the chocolate off the top and ate that for dessert.
We didn’t stick around long enough to have some of the wedding cake, but look at the adorable topper.
Another fun feature of the night. The wedding had a candy bar. These were demolished by the end of the night.
My hubby, brother, and mother may have helped eat some of the candy too.
Overall a great weekend in Quebec, and I was happy with my vegetarian option. Lots of Love to M. and L. I’m sure you will have a wonderful life full of love together.
What is your experience with wedding food? If you are vegan, do you basically bring your own meal? Have you had good experiences with vegetarian options being served at the wedding? What did they serve vegetarians at the wedding?

Looks like a great wedding! When individual meals are served and I let the kitchen know in advance, I usually have a nice vegan meal at weddings. But if it is more buffet-style, or Chinese wedding 7-course style when there is no variation, I have to pick apart what is vegan. When that happens, I usually only find myself with vegetables… not a complete meal in my mind, so I have started to bring some hummus or protein-source with me just in case. Fruit is usually served, too, for dessert, or with the cheese plate, that I usually steal, too.

Looks like a great wedding and a great meal! Sometimes vegetarian options at weddings can be pretty lame … looks really tasty though!
