With my daughter’s due date close to 50 days away I have been thinking about something important to me if I plan on blogging a little about her life. Will I call her by her real name on this blog?
A part of me knows that it would be easier to use her real name than a moniker, especially if we decide to have a second child eventually. But I’m also concerned about her privacy. Would I want a future boyfriend to be able to discover her mother’s blog about her childhood? How about future employers? They say that the internet never forgets. I don’t want to start her digital footprint too early.
At the same time, I feel like this blog has allowed me to connect with so many great people all over the world. People that I feel are somewhat friends. I would love to share the name we have picked at least once.
So after she is born, I will probably reveal her real name once upon her blog debut.
Here’s what I’m willing to divulge now. We have been calling her Little A since early in the pregnancy. Before we knew a gender, my husband decided that he wanted the child to have the same initials as him. As this seemed to narrow down my choices and I was happy about his excitement. So her first and middle initials are A. and E.
Earlier in pregnancy I was complaining to a friend that the baby websites always compared her size to delicious foods, like avocadoes, did they intend for us to think of eating our babies? Since then, her nickname for my daughter has been The Avocado. I think it’s an adorable nickname for her, especially on a blog named “Sometimes I Veg”. But would it be confusing? For example, “Avocado loved the avocado salsa on her veggie burger”.
What do you think I should nickname her on the blog, Little A or Avocado?
What are your feelings on sharing a minor’s name on a public website or blog?

It seems like it would be difficult to maintain across the board with instagram, twitter, Facebook and a blog someone you know in real life is bound to use the name on one or many platforms.
I don’t mind if people mention her name (I do plan on announcing it at least once), but would rather call her by some kind of nickname on the blog. I find it so weird to think that her generation will live in an era where all her friends will have made an appearance on the internet (in some form) before they were even born (facebook pregnancy announcements and the like).
It””s good that you””re concerned about privacy, but not worried about being too secretive either. Personally I would prefer Little A because it””s easier to visualize a baby girl that way compared to Avocado…although that””s a cute nickname too! I would say you should try out whichever nickname you feel is right and you might even decide to change it once she””s born and you actually try using it on the blog!
